Lexus LBX Morizo RR Arrives With Deliveries Starting Q1

The hot-shot version of the Lexus LBX, the Morizo RR, has dotted down in New Zealand.

The RR is the smallest hottest Lexus you can buy.

It rides on a dedicated platform and with its turbocharged engine is said to “redefine expectations in the luxury small SUV market”.

Lexus New Zealand Vice President, Andrew Davis, said “While the Morizo RR is clearly focused on fun and performance, it hasn’t forgotten its Lexus roots”.

“The brand’s signature quietness and comfort levels have also been preserved…even during spirited driving.”

The care and attention to ride quality means the LBX Morizo RR can also be the consummate daily driver during the week.

A couple of flyers here.

Powering the RR is a 206kW/390Nm three-cylinder turbopetrol, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Lexus LBX Morizo RR Chief Designer, Kunihiko Endo, said racing driver, Masahiro Sasaki, was integral in the car’s development. Bodywork, suspension, brakes and tyres were chosen for optimal performance.

David said “The development aim for the LBX Morizo RR was to blend performance, luxury and fun into a ‘partner’ that could bring a smile to the face of the true enthusiast, someone like Morizo.”

Special sport features include an electronically controlled All-Wheel Drive system, and front and rear Torsen limited slip diffs.

Aggressive front end appropriate given what's under the hood.

A body kit includes redesigned bumpers with larger intakes for cooling, and body coloured wheel arches and side skirts. Nineteen-inch forged aluminium wheels are finished in Continental SportContact 7 235/45 tyres. The Morizo RR rides slightly lower than the LBX hybrid. Moreover, the driver’s hip point rides 10mm lower to create a greater sense of unity with the car.

Body rigidity increases significantly with 469 spot welds and 12.8m of structural adhesives. There are also additional underbody stability braces and a rear performance damper. The latter aims to absorb vibrations arising in the chassis, improving handling and ride comfort.

Active Sound Control amplifies driving sounds through the audio speakers. This involves synchronising engine and exhaust resonances as the vehicle accelerates and slows.

The cabin features leather-accented front sports seats, ‘Ultrasuede’ material throughout the interior, sports pedals, paddle shifters, and a heated steering wheel. There’s also a 13-speaker Mark Levinson premium audio system, a 12.3-inch digital meter, a head-up display, and a 9.8-inch touchscreen display.

The RR is available in five colours, four matched with a black roof. RR’s RRP is $89,900 plus ORCs. A four-year unlimited kilometre warranty includes free servicing and Roadside Assistance in that time.
