Latest RTR Ford Mustang has a snarlin’ 650kW

Vaughn Gittin Jr’s company offers a supercharged version of the Ford Mustang that generates almost 900Nm of torque and 650kW of tyre-shredding power.

That's relatively restrained considering what is under the hood.

The new RTR Spec 5 is “Not just another supercharged Mustang”, according to Ready to Rock’s company boss.

RTR is selling 50 cars a year, each priced at $US159,999. That’s about half the price of Ford’s own GTD that sells for over $300,000.

Gotta love those extensions, not hair silly.

The RTR Spec 5 takes inspiration from Gittin Jr’s drift machines. As well as the stage 2 supercharger and intercooler, it also features an RTR by Borla cat-back active exhaust system.

The chassis is trick too. There’s a set of RTR 30-way adjustable “Tactical Performance” coilovers and variable anti-roll bars, along with two-piece front brake discs and Brembo calipers. The Spec 5 rolls on 20-inch RTR Aero 5 wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres (305-section up front, and 315-section at the rear). Every car it modifies comes with the Electronic Drift Brake offered by Ford from the factory, making it easier to go sideways.

All muscle under the hood.

And topping it all off is a look to go with the sideways action. The Spec 5 uses the company’s latest wide body kit. This is a full bodywork package that expands the front and rear wings and side skirts. The front arch extensions get broad felt liners while the rear ones feed cooling air to the tyres, sensibly.

The kit also includes bumper extensions, a carbon chin spoiler, and carbon “wake towers” front and rear to control airflow. There are splitters along the sills and aft of the rear wheels. Factor in the obligatory bonnet vent and rear spoiler, both RTR-designed parts.

You get this bit for free with the car.

Inside there’s an RTR gearshift knob and the option of a six-speed manual or ten-speed automatic. Figure also on leather-trimmed Recaro sports seats, RTR-branded floor mats, and a numbered plaque on the dash with VG Jr’s signature engraved into it. A “premium” paint finish costs $7500, while $15,000 gets you any colour you want.

Mmm, Brembos.

The company will even create a computerised rendition of your potential car to help with decision making.
