Kia has revealed its facelifted Stonic compact crossover. It features design updates, a fresh interior, better connectivity and a mild hybrid powertrain.

Ho Sung Song, President and CEO at Kia Corporation said of the model refresh: “It demonstrates how Kia continues to bring the benefits of elevated design and advanced technology into the mainstream market.
“By combining class-leading displays, smart connectivity and comprehensive safety systems with transformative design and practicality, the new Stonic raises the standard for compact crossovers worldwide.” And it will evidently be a global offering.
A spacious compact crossover
At 4165 mm in length and with up to 352L of cargo capacity, the new Stonic combines compact proportions with roomy interior space. There’s 1070mm of front legroom and practical rear passenger dimensions. Stonic therefore delivers utility within a compact, urban-friendly footprint.

The powertrain line-up comprises a 1.0L T-GDI engine, available in both petrol and mild-hybrid (MHEV) specifications. Customers can have a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. However, if it comes here, expect auto only.
New design chops
Guided by Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy, the new Stonic embodies a stronger, more appealing character. There’s a new front fascia with Kia’s Star Map Signature Lighting, a more structured grille, and an updated bumper design. At the rear is a redesigned tailgate and lamp signature, and cleaner bumper profile.

New wheel designs, including 16-inch and 17-inch alloy options, give the model added presence. The 17-inch rims are for the GT-Line. Two green and blue hues expand the colour options.
Interior update
Inside, the new Stonic features a dual display layout comprising two connected 12.3-inch screens.

The Multimode Touch Display replaces traditional HVAC controls. A new interface allows users to toggle between climate settings and infotainment menus.
There’s also a redesigned steering wheel, a reshaped gear knob, an updated dashboard and a new centre console. There are USB-C fast charging ports, wireless smartphone charging and ambient lighting.
Lock and start via smartphone
The new Stonic has Kia Connect, offering cloud-based services, vehicle diagnostics and remote vehicle interaction via the Kia App. A new Digital Key function means drivers can unlock and start the vehicle using a smartphone or smartwatch.
Safety assured
The new Stonic offers a comprehensive Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) package.

Included are blindspot monitoring and safe exit warning, forward collision avoidance, smart cruise control (adjusts speed into corners) and adaptive cruise with lane keeping.
We await a reply from Kia New Zealand on the availability of the new Stonic, and its powertrain options.
