Kia teases electric grand tourer. Is it a new Stinger?

Kia electric concept in the shadows

Kia appears to be gearing up for the reveal of a new electric grand tourer concept, with fresh teaser images hinting at what many believe will be the long-rumoured successor to the Stinger. While the brand isn’t calling it that, for now it’s simply “The Kia Concept”, the fastback proportions and performance-leaning stance suggest a clear link to the discontinued V6 liftback.

The shadowy previews reveal a dramatically sloped roofline and an aerodynamic, streamliner silhouette. The shape appears to end in a tailgate rather than a traditional boot, aligning it with the Stinger’s profile, though the overall design is sharper and more in tune with Kia’s latest styling themes.

The front overhang is notably short, suggesting an EV-only platform as there’s little space for a combustion engine upfront. That supports rumours of a fully electric grand tourer. Some reports have floated the “EV8” nameplate, and the teasers do hint at a larger vehicle with coupé-inspired proportions.

Lighting is a major design feature. The concept uses protruding LED strips that stretch toward the side-mounted cameras, while swollen fenders give the car an athletic stance. The absence of conventional B-pillars confirms this is a pure concept for now, although features like the expansive glass roof could make it to production.

Kia says only that “a new future is on the horizon,” but industry watchers speculate the car could sit on Hyundai Group’s upcoming eM EV platform, designed for significantly longer range than current models. Hardware from the Ioniq 6 is another possibility. Rear-wheel drive seems probable for base variants, with dual-motor all-wheel drive for higher-performance versions.

Timing remains unclear. Kia will unveil the new EV2 on January 9 at the Brussels Motor Show, but there’s no confirmation this grand tourer will appear as well.
