Kia Returns To SEMA With EV Adventure Concepts

November 7, 2024

Kia America unveiled two pretty cool customized concept vehicles on the opening day of SEMA show. This is the 2024 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) event held in Las Vegas.

In front is the EV9-based machine, while in back is the PV5-based off-road van.

Created by designers from Kia Design Center America (KDCA), the concepts bring to life future vehicles that provide the ultimate in capability and utility.

SEMA has always been a showcase for concept vehicles. Kia delivered two custom concept lifestyle machines that tame the great outdoors responsibly.

The EV9 ADVNTR Concept is an electric three-row SUV based, obviously, on the EV9. It is designed to go where few may dare. The ADVNTR features custom front and rear facias delivering a more rugged look. It also has reinforced rocker panels for increased capability. A three-inch lift and a rugged tyre and wheel combination maximize the off-road capability.

Up top, a custom roof rack can hold anything from standard luggage to bespoke roof-mounted tents. The latter transforms the EV9 ADVNTR into a machine perfect for weekend getaways in the great outdoors.

This van features raised ride height and off-road wheel assemblies for a weekend in the wilds.
PV5 WKNDR CONCEPT EV VAN

And mention of weekends away, Kia also showed off its PV5 WKNDR Concept EV Van. This vehicle is based on the Korean’s recently debuted line of EV PBVs (Purpose Beyond Vehicles), designed for small business and delivery functionality.

It is a van fit for an adventurous lifestyle. With a raised ride height and off-road tyres, this is another long weekend escape pod. It features a flexible modular interior that can easily be customised for optimum space and function. The van’s “Gear Head” area is a unique storage solution that provides an off-board, sheltered space for gear when the vehicle is stationary. That then permits maximum utilisation of interior space while still offering easy access to gear outside.

Here is the pair set up for a night of revelry for their occupants.

The PV5 WKNDR EV Van’s Gear Head space can also be used as a makeshift pantry for cooking gurus who want to enjoy an outdoor view as they rustle up a meal.

And here they are heading home after a weekend in the great outdoors.

Other special PV5 WKNDR EV Van features include solar panels and hydro turbine wheels that can recharge the batteries for myriad uses. For example, Kia installed an onboard compressor to handle inflation requirements, including tyre pressure adjustments and blowing up mattresses for the evening.
