Kia confirms NZ spec for much anticipated electric EV6

Words: Matthew Hansen

Kia New Zealand continues to drip-feed information about the fully electric EV6 ahead of its imminent local launch (first models are set to arrive at the beginning of Q2). Now it’s confirmed local vehicle specs, without detailing pricing.

Local showrooms are set to get four EV6 variants split between two battery grades; a 58kWh unit and a longer range 77.4kWh battery.

The range starts with the EV6 Air standard range rear-wheel drive, followed by the EV6 Air long range rear-wheel drive, the Earth all-wheel drive, and the flagship GT-Line all-wheel drive.

Both of the latter variants get the 77.4kWh battery, with range rated at 506km per charge. The Air long range is rated for 528km, gaining kilometers by virtue of having less driving wheels. While Kia’s local release doesn’t specify the base 58kWh model’s range, the EPA rates it at 373km.

Those wondering if they can tow with the EV6 will be pleased to know that the model is rated to tow 1600kg.

Kia boasts that a full active safety suite comes standard in the EV6, inclusive of lane keep assist, lane follow assist, smart cruise control, and forward collision avoidance assist in all models.

Each model also gets dual 12.3-inch screens, one for the digital cluster and one for the infotainment interface, a power driver’s seat, and dual-zone climate control as standard.

The all-wheel drive variants get Kia’s ‘Premium Relaxation’ heated and powered front seats, and an augmented head-up display. The GT-Line adds a 14-speaker Meridian sound system, 20-inch wheels, and “extra collision avoidance systems”.

The EV6’s options list is dependent on the trim you’re shopping for. Remote Start Park Assist, and Vehicle to Load (V2L) and Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) plug charging functionality are optional extras. The GT-Line, meanwhile, gets a sunroof on its option list.

“The EV6 is arguably the most eagerly anticipated launch of all-time for Kia in New Zealand, to say that we are excited would be an understatement,” said Managing Director of Kia New Zealand, Todd McDonald.

“The completely new, fully-electric five-door heralds the dawning of a totally new era for carbon emissions-free transportation

“The EV6 delivers striking aesthetics, the very latest EV technology together with a locally tuned handling package. Furthermore, it offers fast-charging capability, generous interior space, impressive performance attributes as well as the ability to drive a significant distance on a single charge.”
