MG Motor New Zealand has confirmed the arrival of its all-new premium electric SUV, the IM6, set to launch soon with pricing starting from $66,900 plus on-road costs. The IM6 will be the first model under IM, short for “Intelligence in Motion”, a new premium EV sub-brand backed by MG’s parent company, SAIC, alongside ZJ Hi Tech and Alibaba.
Positioned as a high-tech rival to models like the Tesla Model Y and Kia EV6, the IM6 promises cutting-edge design, next-generation performance and a strong focus on artificial intelligence. MG says the model will “set a new benchmark for AI technology in vehicles” and deliver “intelligent mobility” for New Zealand drivers.

Country Business Manager Dean Sheed said the IM6 represents a major step forward for MG’s EV ambitions. “Our new IM6 embodies intelligent mobility which New Zealand consumers will truly enjoy. They will discover the remarkable features and capability of the vehicle,” he said.
Key highlights include AI-enhanced driving functions, such as Rainy Night Mode and One Touch AI Chauffeur, which can assist or perform certain tasks automatically using the vehicle’s 360-degree camera system. The IM6 is also compatible with MG’s iSMART app, allowing owners to remotely monitor charging, check vehicle location and plan routes via smartphone.

A standout feature is the bi-directional rear-wheel steering system, offering up to 12 degrees of steering angle. This allows the large SUV to manoeuvre with the agility of a hatchback, reducing its turning circle and improving high-speed stability and handling.
Three versions will be offered at launch:
- IM6 Premium (75kWh, RWD) – $66,900 + ORC
- IM6 Platinum (100kWh, RWD) – $77,900 + ORC
- IM6 Performance (100kWh, AWD) – $89,900 + ORC

The IM6 marks a new chapter for MG in New Zealand, one that blends premium tech, smart mobility, and zero-emission performance.
