Hyundai teases potential Formula 1 entry with cryptic social media post

by Richard Edwards
June 25, 2025

Hyundai has sparked speculation of a possible entry into Formula 1, after a cryptic post on its official motorsport social media channels hinted at something big in the works.

On June 25, Hyundai Motorsport posted a short video featuring dramatic engine sounds, stylised footage of single-seater silhouettes, and the phrase “Something fast is coming.” The post was accompanied by the hashtag #HyundaiF1, prompting widespread interest among fans and motorsport media.

While the Korean brand has made no formal announcement, the timing of the teaser is notable. F1 has confirmed it will introduce a new engine formula in 2026 that has already attracted fresh manufacturers such as Audi. General Motors, via the Cadillac brand, is also in the process of seeking entry, and the sport’s popularity is surging in markets beyond Europe — including Asia and North America.

Hyundai has long been active in global motorsport through its successful World Rally Championship programme and customer racing operations in touring cars and rallycross. However, it has never competed in top-tier open-wheel racing.

The teaser could be a prelude to either a full factory team, an engine supply programme, or even a concept project intended to showcase future technology.

Some industry observers believe the move could align with Hyundai’s push toward high-performance electrified vehicles under the ‘N’ sub-brand. With F1’s 2026 regulations placing increased emphasis on electrification and sustainable fuels, it may present an opportunity for Hyundai to align motorsport efforts with its future road car direction.

F1’s governing body, the FIA, and Formula One Management (FOM) have not confirmed any formal discussions with Hyundai at this stage.

Hyundai says more will be revealed on July 4.
