Hyundai takes Ioniq 5 N to the tuners with ‘NPX1’ concept

After being teased yesterday, Hyundai has officially pulled the covers off a modified Ioniq 5 N called the ‘NPX1’ (N Performance eXperimental 1) concept.

There was no better place to reveal it than at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2024, one of the largest car shows in the world for modified vehicles, and that’s because this isn’t your standard electric hot hatch.

Hyundai has gone full boy racer with this one, equipping a standard Ioniq 5 N with a catalogue of newly developed prototype ‘N Performance Parts’ which it plans to begin selling to the public later this year.

What we see on the show car is a new carbon fibre front splitter, side skirts, huge rear diffuser, a touring car-like rear wing, lightweight carbon fibre wheels, beefier brake pads, and lowering springs.

Upgrades don’t just apply to the exterior though as Hyundai will also sell you Alcantara trim for the interior, as well as bucket seats.

But wait, there’s more, with Vice President of N Brand Management Group Joon Park saying that customers will also be able to customise their car’s software too.

“Not limited to tuning parts, we are also developing software customization such as sound and vehicle calibration by OTA (over-the-air) updates which will open a completely new category of EV customization for an exciting future ahead for the tuning community,” says Park.

Nothing has been mentioned as far as power upgrades go though, but considering the Ioniq 5 N makes up to 478kW and 770Nm of torque, we’d say it’s worthy of its new kit.

Hyundai won’t just be limiting its N Performance Parts to the Ioniq 5 N as it plans to make accessories for all N models in the future.
