Hyundai NZ adds 2.5T engine to Santa Fe range, now starts at $69,990

While checking the price of the Hyundai Santa Fe recently on the NZ website, we noticed it said the model now starts from $69,990. We were intrigued and clicked to find out more.

The pricing of the Santa Fe has changed since it was first released. Hyundai NZ set rather high RRPs starting at $84,990 extending up to $104,990, though said each model would receive an immediate $10k discount as part of an introductory offer. It seemed a bit weird, maybe they hoped to spur on demand.

Whatever, the introductory pricing is now the actual price though the Active now starts at $69,990. However, instead of the hybrid powertrain, this price gets you the 2.5T petrol matched to an eight-speed dual clutch trans and AWD. Power and torque, according to the Hyundai Australian website, are 206kW and 422Nm with consumption stated at 9.3L/100km. These compare with the hybrid’s 172kW/367Nm outputs and 6.2L/100km consumption figure. 

The 2.5T engine is available to order on all model grades, and is $5k cheaper than the hybrid version. While the Santa Fe initially launched with three model variants, Hyundai NZ has since slipped in a fourth, the $79,990 Elite sitting in between the $74,990 Active and the $86,990 Limited.  

One reason one might opt for the 2.5T is increased towing capacity; the pure ICE version is able to tow up to 2000kg, slightly better than the hybrid’s 1650kg rating. 

Those that want to get a little more adventurous in their new Santa Fe can also option up the XRT Adventure package. This option pack includes 17-inch XRT alloy wheels with chunky looking 235/70 All-Terrain tyres, an off-road suspension kit, underbody protection plate and mudflaps. This is all fitted at the dealership and costs a further $9,990.
