Hyundai Ioniq 9 another to pass ANCAP muster

by Peter Louisson
September 9, 2025

ANCAP has just issued Hyundai’s Ioniq 9 large electric SUV with a five-star safety rating, following independent testing using the 2025 safety protocols.

Brutal impact but body cell remains intact.

The Ioniq 9 is one of the few all-electric large SUVs available in Australia.

Following crash testing, the Ioniq 9 achieved strong results across all four key assessment areas. It scored 84 per cent for Adult Occupant Protection and 86 per cent for Child Occupant Protection. Other scores included 77 per cent for Vulnerable Road User Protection, and 85 per cent for Safety Assist.

“The Hyundai Ioniq 9 demonstrates Hyundai’s ability to deliver top levels of safety performance in line with ANCAP’s most stringent test requirements,” said ANCAP Chief Executive Officer, Carla Hoorweg.

Handsome large electric SUV is Ioniq 9, said Yoda.

“Consumers and fleet buyers can be confident the Ioniq 9 provides high levels of protection for occupants, as well as other road users.”

Test results highlighted a stable passenger compartment following frontal offset testing. Ioniq 9 received maximum points for protection of the driver in the full width and side impact tests.

Hard to miss those lights, a good safety aspect of Ioniq 9.

Maximum points were awarded for both child dummies in the frontal offset and side impact crash tests. Head-protecting airbags extend right into the third row.

An active “pop-up” bonnet improved the level of pedestrian impact protection.

The Ioniq nine achieved high levels of performance across a range of collision avoidance test scenarios. That included detection and crash mitigation with cyclists and motorcyclists.

Lavish interior for Ioniq 9.

“This latest rating demonstrates that when Hyundai aims for five stars, they can achieve it,” said Ms Hoorweg.

“Regardless of price-point or purpose, it’s consumers who benefit most when vehicle safety is prioritised. Hyundai has shown leadership and achieved this with their flagship EV.”
