Husqvarna’s Norden 901 ADV arriving early 2022

Husqvarna Motorcycles has at long last released the production version of its Norden 901 adventure bike, after first showing off a concept bike two years ago at the EICMA show. The company reckons this is a true adventure travel motorcycle, at home both on tarmac and dirt.

Inspired by its rally machines, the Norden 901 can cover long distances on and off road. They say that this is a capable motorcycle “to make even the longest riding days rewarding….on road or off”. With a 19L tank, it is said to have a touring range of around 400km, and mean fuel use is a claimed 4.5L/100km.

The 901 is powered by a Euro5-compliant 899cc 78kW/100Nm parallel twin engine featuring balancer shafts to cull vibration. Peak torque arrives at 6000rpm. The engine is housed in a chromoly steel trellis frame and weight without fuel is a quoted 204kg.

Up front is a 21-inch wheel suspended by 43mm USD WP Apex forks, fully adjustable and offering 220mm of travel, helping to deliver off road competence and “unrivalled comfort and agility on tarmac”. Controlling the 18-inch rear wheel is a WP shock with hand adjustment of preload, and rebound adjustability, offering 215mm of wheel travel. Aluminium is used for the swingarm, triple clamps and handlebars. Handguards are standard fit, and so too fog lights to aid the LED headlight.

Other standard fare includes a switchable Bosch Cornering ABS system with Street and Offroad modes. There’s also lean-angle-sensitive traction control that works both on and off road. Brakes by J.Juan feature radial-mount four-piston calipers up front, acting on 320mm discs.

Three selectable riding modes are available, Street, Rain, and Offroad, while there’s also an optional Explorer mode which is user configurable (nine levels of TC). A bidirectional quickshifter is also available, while a slipper clutch maintains rear wheel composure.

Tubeless Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tyres are applied to wire spoked rims for optimum performance on and off road. An optional Connectivity Unit facilitates turn-by-turn navigation, telephone call reception and music selection functionality from the rider’s smartphone. A five-inch TFT screen shows necessary data and information.

Available accessories include luggage systems, performance and chassis enhancements and ergonomic solutions so you can customise the Norden 901 to suit your riding.

The Norden 901 should arrive towards the end of Q1 2022, wearing a $26,799 sticker tag.
