Honda’s cute electric Kei Car previews the ‘Super EV’ that will be available outside of Japan in 2026.

The Super EV concept represents Honda’s return to basic EV motoring. It is Europe-bound next year, joining the ranks of other cool low-cost EVs such as the Renault 5 and Hyundai Inster.

Expect it to be based directly on the new N-One e: that is just about to go on sale in Japan. The Honda Super EV will also be a small, urban-focused electric car. It follows in the footsteps of the expensive and slow-selling Honda e.

The Japanese-market model complies with the stringent Kei Car regulations that limit external dimensions. However, the Super EV will feature its own, wider bodywork more suited for road conditions outside of Japan.

So far, Honda has revealed that the N-One e: can manage roughly 270km on a charge. It also features vehicle-to-home (V-2-H) capability.

It is likely to borrow its power source from the N-One Van e: which features a 47kW electric motor driving the front wheels. Battery capacity is unclear but it can hook up to a 50kW DC fast charger. Alternatively, it takes 4.5 hours to rejuvenate the pack using a home charger.

The cabin has a minimalist design that places all the key elements within easy reach of the driver. A generous all-round view simplifies driving. Handy items include a full-width shelf on the dashboard and a place to keep your wallet or purse in the door card. Rear seats can fold and slide and lift up and lock, like those in Jazz.

The Super EV’s design is based on that of the Japanese car. There’s a boxy profile, flat bonnet, round headlights and upright rear end. But the Super EV features wider wheelarches, giving it a more confident and sporty stance.
A charging cap mounts between the headlights, whereas the N-One e: has two flaps, the other for the V-2-H output.

Honda says the Super Concept has been designed for practical usability and to be a fun drive.
Rivals for the Super EV, aside from those already mentioned, include Mini Cooper, Fiat 500e, and newcomers like the BYD Seagull and Citroen e-C3.

Honda is also working on a baby electric SUV for export.
Honda says it is too soon to say whether the Super EV is coming to New Zealand or not.
