Honda is about to release its EV FUN motorcycle

Words NZ Autocar | Images Honda

September 3, 2025

The first full-sized electric motorcycle from Honda is testing in Europe, with the maker readying it for that market.

In these images, the designer is also the test rider.

First revealed a year ago at the EICMA show in Milan, the EV FUN Concept is a mid-sized naked electric motorcycle. It features automobile-grade CCS2 quick charging compatibility.

Leading the development is Masatsugu Tanaka, who has worked on motorcycle development for over two decades.

Honda's first big electric motorcycle is about to have its global reveal.

Between 1998 and 2006 Tanaka-san honed the ride and handling of the CBR600F, CBR600RR, CBR1000RR Fireblade and the Gold Wing. His role then was Test Project Leader for large capacity motorcycles.

Since 2006, as Deputy Large Project Leader, he steered the development of models such as the VFR800F, VFR1200F, VFR1200X CrossTourer, CRF1100L Africa Twin and NT1100.

Hmm, reminds a bit of Alien:Earth in this shot.

Since 2022, he has been responsible for development and dynamic testing within the electrification department. The EV FUN Concept therefore has the same balance, poise and fun factor as other models he developed.

He said: “We developed Honda’s first electric FUN model under the key concept of ‘Be the Wind’.

Given it has only 100km of urban riding per charge, we imagine low state of charge will be a regular occurrence.

“It offers a quiet and smooth ride unique to EV models and a sense of unity with the machine that can make riders feel like the wind,” Tanaka-san explains.

“Building on my 20 years of experience with Honda, we have applied the knowhow accumulated over these years to the EV motorcycle. We have created a model that is genuinely exciting to ride.

“We have done extensive testing in Europe – where our customers are – to evaluate riding performance, charging, and daily usability.

All the camou comes off in a fortnight.

“A new Honda FUN EV is coming soon, and we can’t wait for you to feel it.”

Few specs are available except that Honda says it is equivalent in performance to a mid-sized regular motorcycle. They add that it has around 100km of urban range. Its battery is fixed rather than swappable. Expect more information when the production-ready EV FUN is revealed in a few weeks’ time.

The camou version....
And the one from a year ago.
This was from a year ago at EICMA when the concept was first shown.
