Here’s what a Volkswagen Amarok SUV would look like

Ever wondered what a Volkswagen Amarok would look like if it were turned into an SUV? Wonder no more as the brand’s boss of design, Albert Kirzinger, has revealed just that.

Before we dig into its potential any further though, we’re going to go out on a limb and assume you’re already aware that the current generation Ford Ranger shares its underpinnings with the Amarok ute. With that being said, the Ranger also has an SUV equivalent called the Everest. So think of this sketch as Volkswagen’s take on that.

“Our research phase back in the day took us on an off-road journey, and here´s a sneak peek with a rendering featuring a fully closed pickup bed. Ready for rugged adventures,” says Kirzinger.

Sadly the German carmaker never decided to turn its drawing into the real deal, but it’s safe to say the SUV would’ve looked the part if it did.

While the front looks identical to the Amarok ute, its side profile is where the big difference lies thanks to the extended roofline and additional rear pillar. However, it differs slightly from the Everest thanks to a change to the rear window line.

So would it be a successful seller? Considering Volkswagen’s local line-up already consists of four SUV models, with the Toureag being the biggest of them all, an Amarok-based SUV may find itself in saturated waters.

With that, it isn’t likely we’ll ever see the Amarok get turned into a seven-seater any time soon, but it’s fun to fantasise right?
