Geely has confirmed its second model for New Zealand, with the Starray EM-i hybrid SUV set to arrive in showrooms this November.
The mid-size SUV introduces Geely’s new “Super Hybrid” EM-i system to our market, a petrol-electric powertrain designed to offer an EV-like driving experience with the flexibility of petrol backup. Capable of up to 83km of pure electric range (WLTP) and a total combined driving range of 943km, the Starray EM-i is pitched at Kiwi buyers seeking long-distance efficiency without relying entirely on charging infrastructure.

Pricing and Launch Offer
Two trims will be available: the Complete, priced from $45,990 plus ORC, and the higher-spec Inspire at $49,490. To sweeten the deal, Geely NZ is offering a launch package including a 3-year service plan, 15,000km of Road User Charges, and premium paint at no extra cost, valid until 31 December 2025 or while stocks last.

Features and Tech
Both variants come well-equipped with a 15.4-inch infotainment screen running Geely’s Flyme OS, a 10.2-inch digital driver display, wireless Apple CarPlay (Android Auto to follow via OTA in 2026), and surround-view monitoring. The Inspire adds a 16-speaker audio system, panoramic sunroof, head-up display, ventilated front seats, and a power tailgate.

Interior practicality is a strong focus, with generous rear seat space, over 30 storage areas, and an airy cabin design. Safety is equally comprehensive, with 7 airbags and a suite of driver assistance systems, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and AEB.

Powertrain
The Starray EM-i pairs a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with dual electric motors and an 18.4kWh LFP battery pack. Output from the hybrid system totals 160kW and 262Nm, driving the front wheels. Charging can be done via 6.6kW AC or 30kW DC fast charging, with a 30–80 per cent top-up taking just 20 minutes.
Warranty and Support
Geely is backing the Starray with a 7-year unlimited kilometre vehicle warranty and 8-year unlimited kilometre battery warranty, plus up to 7 years of roadside assist when serviced through the dealer network.
Growing the Brand
The launch comes shortly after the Giltrap Group’s NordEast division was appointed local distributor for Geely, Lynk & Co, and Zeekr, with a target of delivering 5,000 electrified vehicles to New Zealand within three years.

Jordan Haines, Brand Manager of Geely New Zealand, says the Starray EM-i represents a breakthrough for Kiwi buyers:
“The Starray EM-i demonstrates our commitment to achieving price parity between electrified vehicles and internal combustion engines. It’s world-class hybrid technology at an attainable price point.”
With sharp pricing, long range, and a stacked spec sheet, the Starray EM-i enters one of New Zealand’s hottest market segments, taking on the likes of the BYD Sealion 6, Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and Chery Tiggo 7.
