Geely Auto has announced a strategic partnership with the Giltrap Group, appointing it as the country’s official distributor.

The Chinese giant says this partnership signifies ‘a key achievement in Geely’s global expansion, further solidifying its presence in the Oceanian market.

“New Zealand is crucial to our global expansion, and we are excited to strengthen our presence and partnerships here. The alliances we’ve established with a leading distributor like Giltrap Group will be pivotal to Geely’s sustained growth and reputation in the region,” said Li Lei, CEO of Geely Auto Australia.

Geely Auto joins Giltrap Group’s broader Geely portfolio, which already includes the established brands of Volvo, Polestar, and Lotus.

Michael Giltrap adds, “Giltrap Group is proud to partner with Geely, who is undoubtedly one of the great automotive companies; this is something we have discovered first-hand through Volvo, Lotus and Polestar. Geely combines world-class engineering, striking design and outstanding value, and now this partnership allows Giltrap Group to bring their brilliant range of vehicles to New Zealand. The combination of our great team and our expertise as an automotive distributor and retailer will deliver the best Geely experience to Kiwi drivers.”

The release states; Geely offers New Zealand customers a complete range of powertrains, including hybrid, plug-in hybrid, range-extended, petrol, and fully electric vehicles. “To give our customers a genuine choice across every type of energy efficient vehicles has never been more important, as our country has unique requirements with the distances travelled and sometimes remote locations that Kiwis live or holiday in,” says Giltrap.

The Geely EX5, a mid-sized electric vehicle, will be the first model to enter the New Zealand market in 2025.

Geely has plans to establish an extensive network with showrooms across major cities and regional areas in 2025.
