Fancy Peter Brock’s SS HDT Group A company car?

by Peter Louisson
April 8, 2024

Currently up for sale on the collectingcars website is this virtually original 1985 Holden Commodore (VK) SS HDT Group A.

Brock's SS HDT car resplendent in Formula Blue.

It is a rare homologation special and is evidently Peter Brock’s company car. That’s according to an HDT letter signed by his long-time teammate, the late John Harvey. This particular car is number 005 of 500 examples made and the current bid is a touch over $300,000. The auction closes on Thursday 11th April at 6.30pm (Australian time).

The ‘Blue Meanie’ is has had four owners and is accompanied by a large folder of supporting paperwork, invoices, period advert clippings and HDT literature. Its odometer reads 79,724km, and the sport sedan is in ‘largely original condition’.

Some of the many background documents of authenticity.

The vehicle is finished in Formula Blue with white Group A decals, Peter Brock signature wing decals, front SS decals and celebratory Bathurst stickers on each rear corner.

Under the hood is a 4.9-litre A9L V8 that sends 196kW to the rear wheels through an M21 four-speed manual gearbox and limited-slip differential.

V8 has numerous HDT mods for extra power.

The light blue interior retains its factory-fitted Scheel front sports seats trimmed to match the rear bench with velour bolsters and patterned cloth centres. There’s also a Peter Brock-branded radio cassette player and leather-trimmed Momo steering wheel.

It rides on the correct 16-inch ‘Aero’ alloy wheels finished in white and fitted with recent Bridgestone Potenza tyres.

The factory specification includes full Bilstein suspension, a race-bred front air dam and rear deck lid spoiler. This example has a stainless-steel exhaust system.

In the Australian Personal Property Securities Register, the VIN of this vehicle indicates there is no security interest or other registration kind logged against the serial number. In the Austroads NEVDIS system there is no indication that this has even been written-off or stolen.
