Defender Octa teased as brand’s new flagship V8 model

Having branched off from the main Land Rover brand last year, Defender has announced that its new flagship model will be host to more power and capability than the trusty four-wheel drive has ever seen before. Say hello to the Octa.

We’ll begin by addressing the model’s name, which the British brand says has been inspired by the octahedron shape of a diamond – Earth’s hardest naturally occurring substance. Diamonds are also pretty expensive too.

Moving on, the Octa will feature a twin-turbocharged V8 mild-hybrid engine under the bonnet which we understand is the same 4.4-litre unit found in the new Range Rover Sport SV, producing 467kW.

It’ll also be equipped with the same trick suspension as the SV, that being “hydraulic interlinked 6D Dynamics technology”, enabling the Defender to accelerate, brake, and corner while remaining nearly level.

The Octa of course wears a nameplate synonymous with traversing rugged terrain, which is why we’re pleased to know it’ll be able to tackle “the most demanding off-road terrain”. Supposedly.

Several distinct touches can be found inside and out, including a new encircled diamond graphic insignia on the steering wheel and side panels.

The Defender Octa will be revealed later this year, with interested customers encouraged to contact their local dealer to secure their vehicle.
