Cupra has announced the return of its most potent model, the Formentor VZ5, a limited-edition, five-cylinder flagship that marks the peak of the brand’s combustion-powered performance cars. Just 4,000 units will be built globally, and for the first time, it will be available in both left- and right-hand drive, opening the door for markets such as New Zealand and the UK.

At the heart of the VZ5 is the familiar 2.5-litre turbocharged five-cylinder engine shared with Audi’s RS3. It’s been recalibrated for 390 PS (287 kW) and 480Nm of torque, sending drive to all four wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and Cupra’s advanced all-wheel drive system with a torque splitter for precise cornering control. The setup should see the VZ5 sprint from 0–100 km/h in around 4.2 seconds.

That easily eclipses the standard Formentor VZ 2.0 TSI, which produces 228 kW and 400 Nm, and completes the same sprint in roughly 4.9 seconds. The extra cylinder, torque, and bespoke tuning should make the VZ5 a more visceral and characterful drive particularly with its distinctive five-pot soundtrack.

Visual changes help it stand apart, too. The VZ5 gains a more aggressive front bumper with an engraved splitter, flared arches, and a revised rear diffuser with trademark copper-accented diagonal exhausts. It also rides on unique 20-inch alloys finished in copper, paired with a palette of metallic and matt paint finishes, including Enceladus Grey Matt and Century Bronze Matt.

Inside, the VZ5 retains Cupra’s signature blend of sportiness and sophistication, highlighted by deep CUPBucket seats, copper detailing, and advanced digital instrumentation.
Cupra says production of the Formentor VZ5 will begin in early 2026 at its Barcelona facility.
