Could this be the world’s most capable electric 4×4?

Next month, we are set to be introduced to the world’s most capable electric four-wheel drive according to its maker, Munro Vehicles.

If you haven’t heard of the brand before, Munro is Scotland’s only volume production car company which was founded in 2019. Its objective is to create an off-road vehicle that stands the test of time much like the Land Rover Defender.

The brand also wants to help off-road fleets – like construction, agriculture, and mining – decarbonise which is why its first four-wheel drive is fully electric.

Called the Munro MK_1, the off-roader can supposedly navigate the most challenging terrain thrown at it while operating for up to 16 hours on a single charge. But we guess they don’t mean being driven at 100km/h for that period, as a 1600km range would seem incomprehensible. 

While much of the official technical specifications are still under wraps, we do know it can seat up to five occupants while accommodating a 1000kg payload and 3500kg towing capacity.

The company’s website also outlines the proposed Launch Edition specification which includes a 280kW and 700Nm output, permanent four-wheel drive, a steel chassis, 80.1kWh battery, and 100kW charging.

Munro wants to build 50 examples of the model in 2023 before the company transitions to a purpose-built facility near Glasgow the following year. There, it will ramp up production to 250 vehicles per year with plans to deliver 2500 annually by 2027.
