Ateco Automotive NZ, which imports and distributes BYD vehicles in New Zealand, has secured the third-generation All-of-Government (AoG) contract. Autotalk says it reaffirms BYD as the primary supplier of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) under the scheme. Over 3800 have already been delivered to government agencies.
The importer and distributor says it marks a major milestone in its public sector presence.
Commenting on the news, Ateco Automotive NZ GM Warren Willmot said: “AoG fleet is a considerable portion of our business and we are extremely proud to be a supplier.
“We’ve set up BYD with a ‘fleet first’ mentality — when everyday consumers see trusted organisations…using BYD, it reinforces the quality and reliability of our vehicles,” he added.
The renewed contract strengthens BYD’s growing footprint in New Zealand’s EV market, with Ateco highlighting its ongoing commitment to sustainability and fleet functionality.
Ateco says it looks forward to continuing its work with public agencies like KiwiRail, Fire and Emergency NZ, and the Ministry of Education as New Zealand accelerates its shift to cleaner transport.
The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) recently released the latest list of vehicle brands approved for purchase under the third-generation AoG motor vehicles contract. It now includes more diverse electrified offerings.
Effective from July 1, the 2025 AoG panel features 17 brands, including a wave of new entrants, reflecting the changing face of the New Zealand vehicle market.
