BYD Seal hybrid wagon unveiled in China

The BYD Seal 06 DM-i plug-in hybrid wagon has been uncovered ahead of its official launch. It offers a more practical alternative to its sedan sibling. With an electric range of up to 83km (CLTC) and a 160kW electric motor, the estate could be a strong contender for European buyers looking for an affordable, electrified load-lugger.

A Proven Foundation

The BYD Seal 06 DM-i sedan hit the Chinese market last year as one of the first models featuring BYD’s fifth-generation DM hybrid system. It has racked up 220,736 units sold in under a year. Now, BYD has filed for approval to introduce a station wagon variant, further expanding its growing hybrid lineup.

Design & Dimensions

Visually, the Seal 06 DM-i wagon sticks closely to the sedan’s styling cues, featuring a large trapezoidal grille, sharp LED headlights, and flush door handles. A gently sloping roofline and blacked-out pillars give it a sleek, modern profile, while at the rear, a full-width taillight unit adds to the contemporary look.

At 4,850 mm long, 1,890 mm wide, and 1,505 mm tall, the Seal 06 DM-i estate is slightly bigger than its sedan counterpart. Its 2,790 mm wheelbase should ensure ample cabin space, while 17- or 18-inch wheels complete the package.

Powertrain & Performance

The Seal 06 DM-i wagon will be available in two hybrid powertrains, both based around a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (74kW):

  • Base model: 120kW electric motor + 10.08 kWh LFP battery → 53 km EV range (CLTC)
  • Higher trim: 160kW electric motor + 15.874 kWh LFP battery → 83 km EV range (CLTC)
