The BMW 5 Series facelift and hot M5 were spotted testing recently, with Neue Klass styling evident.

The eighth-generation BMW 5 Series facelift and M5 are out testing on road. They are showing off fresh styling ahead of the Neue Klasse 3 Series launch at the Munich motor show (iX3). The all-electric 3 Series sedan debuts next year.

BMW’s bold new design language will not only debut on its electric cars but also ICE powered models, as with this facelifted M5.

The renewed M5 is due out in 2027, and the standard 5 Series will display a similar Neue Klasse influenced look.

Both cars will ride on BMW’s fresh Neue Klasse platform. They will compete with both electric and ICE powered A6 models and Volvo’s new all-electric ES90 large saloon.
Any time an M5 shows up for Nurburgring testing means the car is nearing its launch. The Neue Klasse’s take on BMW’s kidney grilles remains, along with a fresh headlight design. Expect a blanked off grille to maintain its aerodynamic attributes. Air intakes are reshaped, thanks to a new front bumper.

The rear of the M5 prototype gets a bespoke bumper and diffuser arrangement, with a small lip spoiler expected on the production car. A quad-exhaust tip arrangement is typical of a BMW M car.
Inside, expect the ‘Panoramic iDrive’ set up. The firm’s traditional rotary iDrive controller will make way for a huge, full-width display on top of the dash. A 17.9-inch central touchscreen will take pride of place in the middle. Expect a more minimalist cabin for the facelifted 5 Series.

Figure on much the same powertrains for refreshed 5 Series models. That means the M5’s 535kW/1000Nm twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 allied to a plug-in hybrid system. Again, power will go out to all four wheels.Â
