BMW iDrive introduces panoramic vision HUD at CES 2025

BMW introduced its latest iDrive operating system at the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. It features a panoramic heads-up display (HUD) that spans the entire windshield.

Dubbed the “BMW Panoramic Vision,” the system projects driving information such as speed, navigation prompts, and safety alerts directly into the driver’s line of sight. This means the driver can see important data without taking their eyes off the road.

The Panoramic Vision HUD is integrated into a narrow black strip below the windshield, running between the A-pillars. And unlike the traditional HUDs, the display can be seen by both the driver and front passenger.

The updated iDrive system also includes a central touchscreen angled towards the driver for better usability. It is customisable and allows users to upload their personal images into the system. They can also configure display modules according to their preferences.

The vision display includes six customisable widgets that can be dragged from the central touchscreen covering things like outside temperature, navigation ETA and turn-by-turn information.

BMW’s personal assistant also has improved language understanding and can adapt to the driver’s habits over time. This AI assistant responds to “Hey BMW,” or can be brought up with a button press on the steering wheel.

The operating system behind the iDrive is called BMW Operating System X. It powers the new iDrive with a combined screen and voice command for a more familiar but far more comprehensive interface than previous versions.

The new iDrive system will debut in BMW’s upcoming X-class SUV built on the Neue Klasse platform. It is expected to be available by late 2025 and will be integrated into all future models.
