Audi Q6 e-tron Sportback Confirmed and RS Variant Teased

Audi insiders say that the RS Q6 e-tron heavy hitter electric SUV will be revealed next year. Whether or not it gets the go-ahead has yet to be confirmed, however. If it does, this will be much more than just a once over lightly for the SQ6, pictured. No images are as yet available.

The Q6 e-tron line-up was developed alongside the Porsche Macan Electric. They both utilise the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture, along with major chassis, battery and electronic components.

The SQ6 has a 360kW dual-motor powertrain with all-wheel drive. However, the RS Q6 is likely to use the Macan Turbo’s set-up, raising power to 463kW. That translates to a sprint time to 100km/h of just over 3sec. By comparison, the SQ6 e-tron gets 380kW and takes 4.3sec for 0-100km/h.

While the two variants may therefore seem similar, Porsche’s top Macan will retain more of a sporting bent. The RS Q6 is likely to prioritise ride comfort.

Like all such models, the RS Q6 e-tron will likely feature radical styling cues, such as bulging haunches and huge wheels. A wild RS interior is a given.

Prices and specifications will surface at the time of the reveal, if and when it happens. We don’t even have local SQ6 e-tron pricing or spec yet, as this isn’t due to arrive here until next year.

What’s more concrete is that a Sportback variant of the Q6 will disrobe before the end of this year. It will have the same underpinnings as the Q6 e-tron, so expect a 100kWh battery pack (94.9kWh net) and AWD. With better aeros Audi suggests a little more range (circa 640km). A silhouette image was shown at the UK launch of the Q6 e-tron, suggesting a ‘teardrop’ design. A rounded roof shape plunges from the B-pillar towards the rear, ending in a bootlid spoiler. The front will ape that of the regular Q6 e-tron, as will the body crease above the rear wheels.

The interior should prove the same, with Audi’s 12.6in driver cluster and 10.9in infotainment screen. An optional 10.9in passenger touchscreen is likely so the other front seat occupant can run the nav and the car’s audio system to prevent driver distraction. Or stream videos on the go.
