Audi New Zealand has announced it will add the plug-in A5 Avant e-hybrid to its lineup.

The A5 Avant e-hybrid uses a 2.0-litre TFSI engine paired with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 220kW and 450Nm. It accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in a claimed 5.9 seconds and is said to be enhanced by quattro ultra technology and S sport suspension.

What is the EV range of the Audi A5 Avant e-hybrid?

The model’s new high-voltage battery offers around 45 percent higher capacity than the old model (which wasn’t offered here), now up to 25.9kWh (net 20.7 kWh), allowing for an electric range of up to 101 km (WLTP). Maximum AC charging power has been increased to 11kW, reducing charge time to around 2.5 hours. The Avant has a trunk volume of 361L, down from 448L of the regular A5 thanks to the battery pack being stored in the rear. The hybrid can tow the same amount however, up to 1900kg braked.

What is the fuel consumption of the Audi A5 Avant e-hybrid?

Always tricky when talking about plug-in hybrids, as it all depends on the state of the battery charge. Official Audi data says the A5 is between 2.1–2.6L/100km (47-60g/km) when utilising a charged battery. Electric power consumption in EV mode is 15.8kWh/100km. Fuel consumption with ‘a discharged battery’ ranges between 6.5-7.4L/100km.

Audi’s latest hybrid system also includes improved regenerative braking, which can now be adjusted via steering wheel paddles in EV mode. The system prioritises electric driving whenever possible, optimising battery usage based on navigation data.

Hybrid management is designed for efficiency and flexibility, offering two modes: “EV” for fully electric driving and “hybrid” mode, which strategically manages battery charge. For the first time, drivers can manually select their desired charge level via a digital slider.

Standard features include the S line exterior and interior, Matrix LED headlights, privacy glass, progressive steering, and a suite of premium technology such as the MMI panoramic display, navigation, and inductive phone charging. Comfort is further enhanced with 3-zone automatic climate control and 19-inch black gloss turned finish wheels.

What is the NZ price of the Audi A5 Avant e-hybrid?

The Audi A5 Avant e-hybrid is set to launch in New Zealand in Q3 2025, with a starting price of $117,990 (excluding on-road costs).
