Two other vehicles apart from the Omoda 9 underwent ANCAP testing recently. Both the LDV Terron 9 and Audi Q5 achieved five-star crash test ratings.
LDV TERRON 9
Double-cab ute buyers are almost spoilt for choice now, as fully electric, mild hybrid and PHEV examples join the fray. The latest to undergo ANCAP testing is the diesel-powered LDV Terron 9. It secured a five-star rating.

Good levels of adult occupant protection were demonstrated, with maximum points recorded in the full-width frontal test, side impact test, and occupant-to-occupant test. These results contributed to an overall Adult Occupant Protection score of 91 per cent.
The full array of points was also awarded for protection of children in the frontal offset and side impact tests, leading to a score of 89 per cent for Child Occupant Protection.

Crash avoidance capability impressed across the range of scenarios tested. Notable performances were registered in emergency lane keep scenarios and the lower-speed AEB reverse scenarios. In the latter, the vehicle can prevent reversing collisions with adult and child pedestrians.
“This is an excellent result for LDV’s new generation ute” was the comment from CEO of ANCAP, Carla Hoorweg. The five-star safety rating applies to all LDV Terron 9 diesel models.
AUDI Q5
The third-generation Audi Q5 medium SUV arrives in Australia and New Zealand with five-star safety, after producing impressive crash test results. Perfect scores were awarded for the Q5’s performance in forward, junction, and T-bone crossing AEB tests. Maximum points were also seen in AEB Motorcyclist tests (14 out of 18, 80 per cent).

Occupant protection was also a strong point, with good scores achieved for the driver (34 out of 40, 85 per cent) in the full width frontal, side impact, far side impact, and oblique pole crash tests. Similarly, a good score was reported for child protection (42 out of 49, 86 per cent).
A point of note, however, was the relatively high seven point penalty applied for vehicle-to-vehicle compatibility in the frontal offset test. The Q5 was assessed as being a higher risk to an oncoming vehicle. A Vulnerable Road User score of 14 out of 18 was recorded, 80 per cent.

Ms Hoorweg commented: “The Audi Q5 provides strong occupant protection and effective crash avoidance, with vehicle-to-vehicle compatibility noted as an area for improvement”.
The five-star ANCAP safety rating applies to all Q5 and SQ5 variants.
