Cupra’s latest model, the Cupra Terramar, has received a five-star ANCAP safety rating after crash testing. It scored well across all four areas of assessment.

Each of the physical crash tests produced good results. It garnered maximum points (89 per cent) for protection of the driver in the full width and side impact tests. Full points (87 per cent) were also achieved for the level of protection offered to child occupants in the frontal offset and side impact tests.

Terramar also scored 82 per cent for Vulnerable Road User Protection and 78 per cent for Safety Assist. The AEB system performed well, including more advanced turning scenarios. But it does not function in reverse.

A five-star rating applies to petrol and hybrid FWD and AWD variants sold in Australia and New Zealand.

Here is what it looks like at impact.

“The Cupra Terramar offers a well-rounded package of occupant protection and crash prevention,” said ANCAP Chief Executive Officer, Carla Hoorweg.

“Those looking to purchase the Terramar in New Zealand should be aware that there are slight differences in the safety specification of NZ models.”

Peugeot 3008 & 5008

The hybrid Peugeot 3008, and its three-row sib, the Peugeot 5008, have received four-star ANCAP safety ratings. Crash testing was undertaken on the two-row Peugeot 3008, with common scores shared by the closely-related models.

Here it is pre-crash, moving along nicely.

In crash tests the protection offered to adult and child occupants was good. Relatively low levels of injury risk were observed in the frontal offset, full width frontal, side impact and oblique pole tests. Full points (82 per cent adults, 87 per cent children) were scored for injury protection of the driver in the side impact and pole tests. It was the same for both child dummies seated in second-row seating positions.

Not looking so flash after a big hit up front, however.

A marginal level of protection was noted for front seat occupants in side impact crashes. That’s because no centre airbag is fitted.

Side impact testing also gave good results.

The pair scored 79 per cent for Vulnerable Road User Protection.  However, a 65 per cent Safety Assist score limited the overall rating to four stars.

Ms Hoorweg said: “Both the Peugeot 3008 and Peugeot 5008 provide a reasonable safety package. With some small enhancements to collision avoidance performance, five-star ratings are within reach.”

Peugeot 5008 vehicles are not fitted with top tether child restraint anchorages in third-row seating positions.
