Alfa Romeo announces its next model will be called Milano

Alfa Romeo has announced that its next model will be called the ‘Milano’, a name that pays tribute to the Italian brand’s hometown.

The new nameplate will feature on the carmaker’s first ‘Sport Urban Vehicle’, a vehicle that will also be offered in fully electric form.

As a B-segment vehicle, the Milano will become the smallest vehicle in Alfa’s current line-up and act as a new entry point to the brand.

Chief executive Jean-Philippe Imparato says to think of it as a “welcome back” to owners of the Giulietta and Mito hatchbacks who have been left without a compact car offering from the brand for several years now.

“It also serves as a ‘welcome’ to anyone looking for a unique sporting experience in this segment and the distinctive beauty of Italian design,” he added.

“Milano is the first milestone in the brand’s transition process to electric and, like the Tonale, has the important task of further strengthening Alfa Romeo’s global presence.”

We understand the model will be based on the same platform as other Stellantis small SUVs like the Jeep Avenger, Fiat 600, and Peugeot e-2008.

That means the Alfa will inherit the same turbocharged 1.2-litre inline three-cylinder for the petrol-powered model and 54kWh battery-equipped electric drivetrain for the EV.

The Alfa Romeo Milano will fittingly be revealed in Milan in April 2024.
