A new V12 Aston flagship is in the wings

Aston Martin is releasing a new V12 twin-turbo powerplant it says will “shift the ultra-luxury paradigm”. It represents “the dawn of a new V12 era” for the brand.

Whether or not it has anything to do with current engine provider, AMG, is unclear. This also comes at a time when Aston Martin has pushed back its first EV launch until 2026. Hybrid power is also promised. 

This means a continuation of the V12-engined flagships that have symbolised the brand for the past quarter of a century. Aston describes it as “a technical masterpiece and a true leader in its class”. The in-house engineered powertrain promises “visceral performance”.

With 614kW and a solid 1000Nm of torque, the 5.2L V12 engine is a complete re-design. It will fire one of the most powerful models from the marque to date. 

Highlights include a strengthened cylinder block and conrods, redesigned cylinder heads with reprofiled camshafts, and new intake and exhaust ports. Higher flow rate fuel injectors improve combustion for gains in performance and efficiency. Topping it off, high speed, reduced inertia turbochargers should deliver increased performance and throttle response.

Aston Martin Chief Technical Officer, Roberto Fedeli, commented: “The V12 engine has long been a symbol of power and prestige, but it is also a statement of engineering passion and technical prowess. This engine represents the dawn of a new V12 era for Aston Martin.”

The new V12 engine will power the brand’s most exclusive and limited availability models. It will be “handcrafted” in limited numbers.

Expect it to debut in a new GT towards the end of the year. From a hint in the release, it is likely to take the Vanquish nameplate, last seen in 2016. The new luxury supercar will be more powerful than the 566kW/900Nm DBS, whose reign is ending soon. 

Prototypes have been spotted on road and feature a new bespoke interior and large muscular body with a long low bonnet.

Bulging rear wheel arches, 21-inch rims and a built-in lip spoiler frame the rear. 

Aston Martin is setting the scene for its new performance flagship, describing it as a “true dynamic disruptor”.

It has also issued a short video, introducing the new beast of an engine.
