New Chevrolet Colorado ute revealed

Chevrolet has just revealed its all-new Colorado mid-size pick-up, bringing with it a new design, improved performance and enhanced technology.

The last time we saw the Colorado nameplate was on the now defunct Holden Colorado. With Chevrolet leading the charge on the new Colorado, the ute is being produced in the US which suggests it’s destined for the North American market only.

One of the big changes for the third-generation Colorado is the lack of a V6 engine option. Although this engine only ever appeared on the US model, it has now been replaced with a 2.7-litre turbocharged four-cylinder throwing out 231kw and 583Nm in the range-topping ZR2.

The engine already features in the larger Silverado but now receives a more rigid cylinder block, 30 per cent stiffer crankshaft and a fully forged bottom end to increase torque.

Three chassis set-ups are available including the standard 5410mm long WT, LT and Z71 chassis, a 2-inch lifted and wider Trail Boss option, and a 3-inch lifted and wider stance ZR2.

Selectable drive modes also make an appearance including normal, tow/haul, off-road, terrain and Baja.

By far the meanest looking Colorado of the range, the ZR2 takes its off-road performance seriously with the addition of a high-clearance front fascia, 17-inch wheels with chunky mud tyres, all-terrain dampers and cast-iron control arms.

If you want to take the ZR2 to the next level, a Desert Boss edition is available with beadlock-capable wheels, a roof-mounted light bar and “Desert Boss” emblems.

Production for the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado begins in the first half of next year with pricing to be announced at a later date.

There’s no word on whether or not RHD units will be available nor whether General Motors Special Vehicles will be selling the new Colorado locally.
