Indian drops two special baggers

Indian Motorcycle has unveiled two new top-end baggers, the Challenger and Chieftain Elite models. Only 10 of the proposed run of 350 total will be available in New Zealand, priced respectively at $46k and $48k.

Indian Challenger Elite features Stealth Grey and Black Metallic paint with Indy Red accents, reminding of muscle car paint schemes. A red-stitched seat and colour-matched badging complete the look.

Powering the bike is a liquid-cooled 1768cc V-twin engine, generating 91kW of power and 174Nm of torque. There are three riding modes, Rain, Standard and Sport mode, each with its own traction control setting to align with specific throttle mapping. Electronically adjustable preload at the rear makes set-up for extra cargo or two-up riding simple, while Smart Lean Technology helps to keep riders upright. 

Other features include ABS, keyless ignition, TPM, waterproof saddlebags offering 68 litres of storage, backlit switches, an adaptive LED headlight and accessory lights, adjustable windscreen, floorboards and heated grips. There’s also a 400-watt PowerBand audio system, including saddlebag speakers. A seven-inch touchscreen is compatible with Apple CarPlay, and includes GPS and Bluetooth connectivity. 

The Chieftain Elite features custom-inspired design details, with Heavy Metal Smoke paint complemented by bronze finishings, oil rubbed on the engine.

A streamlined fairing and slammed saddlebags give an aggressive appearance. Other styling features include LED saddlebag lights, a two-up comfort seat, lowered suspension,machined wheels and blacked-out finishes.

The Chieftain Elite uses the air-cooled Thunderstroke 116 engine, good for 174Nm of torque. Rear cylinder deactivation reduces heat output when riding through gridlocked traffic. Its three selectable ride modes comprise Tour, Standard and Sport, for optimised throttle response.

Standard items include an Adaptive LED headlight, adjustable tinted windscreen, aluminium floorboards, backlit switch cubes and an integrated 400-watt PowerBand audio system. This uses the same seven-inch touchscreen as the Challenger Elite and features the same luggage capacity.

Accessories include additional lighting, heated and vented two-up seat, fairing lower sections, a colour-matched trunk and more powerful audio system. Both models are due here soon.
