Audi could soon be making a pick-up truck

The prestige and luxury associated with Audi typically attract a certain kind of car owner. That certain person is not a Ford Ranger owner, but it soon could be.

That’s because Audi has signalled its intent to go into the four-wheel-drive pick-up market.

And we might not have to wait too long to see what an off-roading Audi could look like.

Audi CEO Markus Duesmann said during last night’s financial report meeting “we will present [something] not too far from now.”

“I can’t promise that we will do [a pick-up],” he added, “but we are looking into it.”

Could that mean a concept Audi pick-up is here soon? Hopefully. Not because we could afford one, but because it will be super interesting to see how they pull it off.

It could simply be a premium Amarok. Audi is owned by Volkswagen, remember. This makes sense if Audi wants something on the market soon, though it would be a rather dull option.

Instead, they could, and they should develop their own electric pick-up.

Audi has already committed to only launching EVs from 2026. Every Audi rolled off the assembly line will be electric by the end of the decade.

While not everyone’s cup of tea, an electric Audi pick-up makes perfect sense from the company’s standpoint.

It also gives them the freedom to build basically whatever they want.

VW has a solid EV platform and will only improve given how many strategic partnerships they have within the battery-manufacturing industry.

Earlier today, Audi revealed their A6 Avanti wagon with a mind-boggling fast electric powertrain. So, the technology is there to do it.

Plus, it’s an Audi, so it is supposed to be luxurious. The motoring world hasn’t seen a premium carmaker make a pick-up since Mercedes stuck their badge on a Nissan Navara with the short-lived X-class.

All this is hypothetical, and Audi still hasn’t committed to anything. But it is possible.
