Priceless movie car collection heads to auction as museum liquidates stock

An incredible collection of vehicles that have graced the silver screen in the world’s biggest movies is heading to auction. 

The collection comes from the Paris-based Pop Central Museum, and is made up of 50 cars and 19 motorcycles. 

Hosted by Bonhams, the auction will be running online from November 21 to 28, allowing international buyers to compete for the priceless vehicles. 

Headlining the collection are four screen-used cars, from different corners of movie pop culture over the last five decades. 

First up is a 2001 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII from 2 Fast 2 Furious, driven by the late Paul Walker.

Estimates for this tuner culture icon are in the range of €250,000 – €500,000, which equates to $500,00 – $1 million in New Zealand money. 

Then there’s a 1968 Dodge Charger used during filming of the 2005 remake of the Dukes of Hazzard. 

The value of this controversial machine is slightly down on that of the Evo, predicted to sell for between $240,000 and $300,000 NZD. 

This price estimate seems relatively low considering how rare these original Chargers are these days, and how the production team for this movie destroyed a total of 26 Chargers during filming. 

Pertinent to the Paris museum, a Peugeot 406 from Taxi 2 is also included, which has been described as the “most iconic French movie car.”

While not based on any recognisable production car, a police cruiser from Back to the Future 2 rounds out the headliners. 

This car is one of just two built for the movie’s production, and was the only one fitted with an engine.
