MG3 recalled following safety issue identified in crash tests

MG Motor New Zealand has issued a recall notice for its MG3 hatch, citing a safety fault identified during Euro NCAP crash testing.

The recall concerns a total of 1,207 vehicles manufactured between 06 March 2024 and 30 July 2025.

“During Euro NCAP’s testing for the MG3 conducted earlier in 2025, the driver side seat (with 6-way manual adjustment) slid forward by 111.5 mm on the side closest to the centre console upon collision,” the brand said in its release.

“This movement may increase the risk of leg injuries in the event of a frontal impact.”

“As at the date of this recall, MG Motor is not aware of any incidents relating to the defect,” MG Motor New Zealand adds.

Though described as a “critical safety failure” by Euro NCAP when referring to this fault, the MG3 still received a four-star safety rating, which has been carried over by local safety authority ANCAP.

MG Motor will also be contacting impacted MG3 owners directly. Owners are encouraged to contact their local MG Motor service centre as soon as possible to arrange a visit where MG Motor will fit an additional component to the driver’s seat rail of their MG3. This fitment will be conducted at no charge. The component will ensure optimal performance and safety and is estimated to take from 30 minutes up to one hour.

For further information or to confirm if a vehicle is affected, customers can contact the MG Motor Customer Care team on [email protected] or +61 1800 825 324.
