GWM Ora becomes NZ’s most affordable EV 

GWM’s entry-level Ora Lux has become the cheapest electric vehicle available to purchase in New Zealand, after a $2,000 discount was announced.

Starting from $35,990, the Ora Lux is down from its usual RRP of $37,990, which it shared with New Zealand’s second cheapest EV — the Fiat 500e.

Priced at $35,990 until the end of 2025, the GWM Ora Lux offers an electric driving range of up to 400km (WLTP) thanks to its 57.7kWh LFP battery.

A 126kW/250Nm front-mounted electric motor drives the front wheels exclusively, and it can reportedly hit 100km/h from a standing start in nine seconds.

Standard equipment includes 18-inch alloy wheels, faux leather seats, and a 10.25-inch infotainment display.

When tested in 2022, the Ora received a five-star safety rating, and GWM also covers it with a seven year warranty, plus five years of roadside assist.

When speaking to GWM’s local branch, a spokesperson confirmed the brand was offering this discount to mark the Ora’s “reintroduction to the local market.”

The Ora GT represents the other offering in GWM’s electric hatchback range, which starts from $38,990. It has a lower driving range of 380km (WLTP), but features the same 126kW motor on the front axle.

The GT also gets a panoramic sunroof, a hands-free tailgate, and extra kit on the exterior to give it a sporty aesthetic.
