The Suzuki e Vitara, the brand’s first full EV, will arrive in New Zealand from the second quarter of 2026.
Built at Suzuki’s manufacturing hub in Gujarat, India, the new model will be exported to more than 100 markets worldwide and has already been nominated as a candidate for the 2026 World Car of the Year.
A clean-sheet design for Suzuki’s EV debut
The e Vitara debuts a more aerodynamic design than is usual, representing an evolution from the petrol-powered Vitara still sold today.
The e Vitara will launch with a 61 kWh battery pack, available in two configurations; a two-wheel-drive variant with up to 430km of range (WLTP) and an all-wheel-drive version capable of around 396km. That puts it in contention with models like the BYD Atto 3 Extended Range (420 km) and MGS5 62kWh (430km).
Performance figures are yet to be confirmed, but Suzuki says the e Vitara will deliver “effortless, responsive performance with the range to power through the weekday commute or cruise to your next escape.”

Distinctive looks, thoughtful design
Externally, the e Vitara features a bevelled, aerodynamic body, active front grille shutters to improve efficiency and battery cooling, and unique 18-inch black five-spoke alloy wheels. The overall design aims to blend futuristic sophistication with the compact proportions Vitara owners expect.
The model sits on the new HEARTECT-e platform, engineered specifically for electric vehicles, and comes with the usual driver-assist features. Hopefully these are of the unobtrusive kind. Highlights include autonomous emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic sign recognition, and parking sensors. A quirky touch: the pedestrian warning sound has been tuned to mimic a jet taking off, symbolising Suzuki’s “thrilling new journey.”

Cabin and comfort
Inside, Suzuki has gone for a digital-first, space-efficient cabin that it says feels “like a spaceship about to time warp.” Expect a large infotainment display, intuitive controls, and a clean, modern aesthetic.
Comfort features include heated front seats and steering wheel, wireless charging, customisable ambient lighting, and a smart heat pump climate control system designed to conserve driving range in cold conditions.
Designed for Kiwi lifestyles
“Suzuki has always been about creating small cars that are fun, affordable, and easy to live with,” said Aaron Wales, National Sales Manager of Suzuki New Zealand. “We’re really looking forward to the arrival of the e Vitara and there’s no doubt this outstanding new SUV will appeal to New Zealanders and their sense of adventure. It will be an excellent addition to our range of affordable and fun small cars and SUVs.”

The e Vitara’s compact size and versatile range are expected to make it a natural fit for Kiwi EV buyers, particularly those looking for an alternative to the MG or BYD SUVs, which currently dominate New Zealand’s affordable electric SUV segment.
Coming soon
New Zealand specifications and pricing will be announced closer to launch, but Suzuki promises the e Vitara will stay true to the brand’s values: simple, practical, and fun to drive. Hopefully Suzuki can get the price right to compete with the tidal wave of new Chinese EVs swamping our shores in the next few months.
