Five Stars in ANCAP Testing for Leapmotor And Four for MG

Leapmotor C10 five star crash rating

Leapmotor, Lexus, Volvo, Hyundai and Zeekr were among the recent recipients of a five-star safety rating by ANCAP. Meanwhile MG only managed four stars for its new ZS hybrid while the Jeep Avenger has been lumped with a three-star rating.

That’s good work by Leapmotor. Its new C10 electric SUV gets a five-star rating with strong results in adult occupant protection while the child occupant protection rating was good as well.

The MG ZS hybrid received four stars with a 75 per cent score for its adult occupant protection where it needed at least 80 to get a five-star rating. Limiting its score was the lack of a centre airbag while apparently the seat belt for the rear passenger allowed excessive forward movement in the crash test.

There was worse news for Jeep, however, its Avenger only getting three stars. ANCAP said it was unable to reach the five-star threshold in any area of assessment. Mixed results were seen across the destructive crash tests. And it was limited to three stars through its performance in the vulnerable road user protection and safety assist assessment areas.

The Lexus LBX and Volvo EX30 received strong marks in all areas and the Hyundai Santa Fe hybrid had good results in tests of its collision avoidance capabilities.

The X crossover made a strong debut for Zeekr with a five-star rating, ANCAP noting it awarded maximum points for the protection of occupants in the side impact crash test.
