MG’s upcoming S6 electric SUV, the brand’s first direct rival to the Tesla Model Y and BYD Sealion 7, has been unintentionally revealed through European crash-testing images, months ahead of its official debut.
The undisguised photos of the S6 surfaced via Euro NCAP, which recently awarded the mid-size electric SUV a five-star safety rating. The testing not only exposed the SUV’s final production design but also confirmed key safety and performance details.
While MG has yet to formally launch the S6, the SUV is based on MG’s Modular Scalable Platform (MSP) which is shared with the MG4 hatch, S5 compact SUV and Cyberster convertible.

Five-star Euro NCAP safety score
Crash tests were conducted on a rear-wheel-drive, left-hand-drive example of the MG S6, which achieved strong safety results: 92 per cent for adult occupant protection, 85 per cent for child protection, 84 per cent for vulnerable road users, and 78 per cent for safety assist systems.
Standard equipment confirmed by Euro NCAP includes driver and passenger head airbags, side chest and pelvis airbags, and a front-centre airbag to prevent occupant contact in side impacts. It also comes with autonomous emergency braking (AEB) capable of detecting vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists, along with lane-keep assist, intelligent speed limit assist, and driver fatigue monitoring.

The rating applies to both rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) versions of the S6 that will be sold in Europe.
Powertrain and battery options
Official certification documents reveal that the MG S6 will be available in four configurations:
- 62.2kWh RWD Standard Range – 151kW single-motor
- 77kWh RWD Long Range – 180kW single-motor
- 77kWh AWD Long Range – 269kW dual-motor (119kW front, 180kW rear)
While official range figures have yet to be announced, the 77kWh pack is expected to deliver more than 500km of range (WLTP), putting it squarely against the Tesla Model Y and Kia EV5.
There is no word on what will be offered locally, all those details remain TBA.
Design and technology
The leaked crash-test photos show a sleek, coupe-like silhouette, with thin LED tail-lights, a sculpted tailgate, and a clean, aerodynamic rear design. It looks everybit like the enlarged S5 that it is.

Inside, the S6 is expected to feature the same high-tech infotainment and digital cockpit layout as the S5 and Cyberster, including a large central touchscreen, minimalist controls, and over-the-air update capability.
