2025 Nissan GT-R R35 revealed – is this the last one?

The 2025 Nissan GT-R R35 has been revealed in Japan, marking its 17th year in production, with this one likely being the last of the current generation if recent reports are anything to go by.

When it comes to the newly updated model, both the GT-R Premium Edition T-spec and GT-R Track Edition now feature “high precision” weight-balanced piston rings, connecting rods, and crankshafts, those of which were once only available on the GT-R Nismo Special Edition.

Both will be adorned with an aluminum Takumi certification nameplate that shows who was responsible for assembling the engine, as well as a gold-coloured data plate in the engine bay.

Those who opt for the Premium Edition will also be given the choice of a new interior colour called Blue Heaven. Sales of the 2025 GT-R are expected to start this June.

So then, it seems like Nissan is throwing just about everything it can at the model, which sounds like an ending to us. But don’t just take our word for it.

Earlier this week, reports from Japanese automotive publications Magazine X and Creative Trend suggested that the 2025 model year GT-R will be the last of the sports car in its current form.

The reason? Nissan supposedly told dealers in Japan that it has decided to discontinue production of the model as many parts will no longer be able to be manufactured in the future. However, the carmaker hasn’t officially stated if this is true.

Another report out of Japan from Best Car says that Nissan officials have confirmed the 2025 GT-R is the final iteration of the R35. They also said that the development of the next-generation model – the R36 – is in full swing.

With all that being said, it looks like we’ll have to wait a bit longer before we hear anything official regarding the Nissan GT-R R35’s demise. However, we look forward to seeing what the brand is cooking up for the next model. Production Hyper Force anyone?
