Mercedes-Benz has acknowledged the X-Class is a niche product currently under review for local markets.

The comments come shortly after Nissan revealed development of a new X-Class is yet to begin. As punters are already aware, Nissan and Mercedes collaborated on the first X-Class and it received a mixed reception.

Blake Vincent, Mercedes-Benz Vans Australia PR and corporate communications manager, said that while he is aware of how important utes are to the Oceanic market, “it is a niche product for our overall worldwide product portfolio.

"We continuously review and analyse which further role the X-Class will play in our product line-up.”

For its part, Nissan is already working on a new Navara but it is understood M-B isn’t yet part of that project.
