Ford retains lead in soft May
Ford has kept its commercial market lead in a quiet May.
Commercial registrations were down 5.3 per cent (258) units compared with May 2018 amid an overall softening of the market.
Ford is still the market leader with 22 per cent market share (1009) units, followed by Toyota with 17 per cent (807 units) and Mitsubishi third on 11 per cent (514 units). The Ford Ranger retained the top spot as the best selling commercial model with a 19 per cent share (878 units) followed by the Toyota Hilux on 12 per cent (552 units) with the Mitsubishi Triton in third with 11 per cent market share (514 units).
The top five models in 2019 to date are all utes, with the Ford Ranger in the lead with
4022 units, followed by the Toyota Hilux with 2788 units, Mitsubishi Triton in third with
2518 units, Holden Colorado with 1986 and in fifth spot the Nissan Navara with 1623 units.
In fact, pick-up/cab-chassis 4x4 sales were only 200-odd units behind the ever-strong medium SUV segment in May. Year-to-date, the medium SUV class is 3292 units ahead.
