Yamaha MT-07 receives modest update for 2021

Hot on the heels of a renewed MT-09 for 2021 is a restyled MT-07 with a range of upgraded features, including the 689 engine - no news yet on the smaller 655cc LAMS model we also take - and more powerful front brakes.

Many of the updates ape those of the MT-09, including the new LED headlight, flanked by a pair of DRLs (in a Y-shape like the bigger bike), and larger, more legible instruments. Indicators are also LED units. Tapered handlebars and a new tank and seat should translate to a more comfortable riding position, while the latest Michelin PR5 sports tyres evidently enhance roadholding, particularly in wet conditions.

The 689cc parallel twin sports a revised air intake duct and new fuel injector settings, a fresh exhaust and new ECU, all aimed at a more linear engine response. Peak power and torque of 54kW at 9000rpm and 67Nm at 6500rpm, respectively, are unchanged but the mill is now Euro5 compliant.

New LCD instruments mimic those fitted to the Tracer 700, meaning larger displays (at last) for the clock, gear, tripmeters and tachometer. Finally, dual 298mm front discs are larger by 16mm than the previous model for added stopping power.

The 2021 MT-07 will arrive during the second quarter of 2021, although no price has been set yet. The LAMs unit with the 655cc engine will be available in Storm Fluo, Icon Blue and Tech Black, and is due here in April. The MT-07 HO variant will arrive at the same time, but in Tech Black only.
