Watch this Tesla explode in a Shanghai parking lot
While Tesla reckons its cars are less likely to spontaneously combust than others, a video of a Model S bursting into flames in Shanghai over the weekend says otherwise.
The video went viral on Weibo, one of China’s big social media platforms before making its way to Twitter.
Good or bad, negative or positive I will post anything about Tesla or EVs in China. Smoke is briefly seen issuing from the Tesla before a flash whites out the security camera. When the camera refocuses we can see the Model S engulfed in flames. The two neighbouring Audis also suffered fire damage.
Tesla’s official response reads: “After finding out about this incident in Shanghai, we immediately sent a team to the scene. We are currently contacting relevant departments to understand the situation. Based on current information, no one was hurt.”
Whatever the cause, Tesla will want to have it fixed as soon as possible as the company is currently building its first factory on Chinese soil near Shanghai.
Aftermath hopefully we will hear from Tesla what truly happened. pic.twitter.com/DuFi0pW9dk— Jay in Shanghai (@ShanghaiJayin) April 21, 2019
