Volvo New Zealand appoints new general manager
Change is afoot at Volvo and Jaguar Land Rover’s local arms, following confirmation that JLR operations manager Ben Montgomery is set to take over as general manager at Volvo New Zealand.
It’s a somewhat full-circle announcement for Montgomery. He was formerly a product and marketing manager at Volvo. He hopes to help Volvo position itself closer to the other premium European marques offered in New Zealand, the firm’s statement said.
“I have watched enviously as the Volvo range was updated and reinvented from my time with the brand – some would say, I picked the wrong time to leave just as the new XC90 was released and Volvo went from strength to strength,” said Montgomery.
“This is a great time to be re-joining Volvo, especially with the onset of the Recharge electrification programme.”
Montgomery replaces Coby Duggan, who recently resigned from the role at Volvo after five years. Duggan is set to now join Toyota Financial Services as general manager of sales and marketing. Montgomery starts his new role at Volvo on January 25, while Duggan starts his new role at Toyota next month.
“After five years at the helm I have a real affinity for Volvo and it became clear over the course of a Covid-disrupted 2020 that the core brand values of caring for people and the world around us have never been more relevant,” added the departing Duggan.
“The brand is in great shape, the model line-up is stronger than ever and 2021 is destined to be the record year that 2020 was supposed to be. Ben’s a safe pair of hands who is well known to the team and the dealer network, and I wish him well in his new role.”
