Toyota preparing GR Yaris for Rally Australia debut
Toyota is preparing a prototype of the GR Yaris for a debut at the Rally Australia event on November 17.
The car had been spotted testing in full camouflage recently and the camo pattern matches up with Toyota’s teaser. Evo says the car will be a homologation special for Gazoo Racing's 2020 entry in the World Rally Championship, coming with a new suspension design, fresh axles, and a wider rear track.
Toyota’s teaser suggests the car will come with all-wheel drive which also hints at a powertrain upgrade from the standard 1.0- and 1.5-litre triple versions. Rumblings on the internet reckon this could come in the form of a more powerful four-cylinder.
There are allegedly other performance versions of the Yaris under development too. We could be seeing GR Sport and GRMN versions as well as the GR.
