Tesla Model 3 to get performance version in 2018
CEO Elon Musk confirmed a performance variant will launch in the middle of next year, as long as the brand can sufficiently deal with the high level of demand so far.
"More versions = deeper in hell," he wrote on Twitter. Production hell, that is. Currently Tesla is devoting its resources to getting the Model 3 up and running and fulfilling the huge amount of orders. However, there are more variants in the pipeline.
Probably middle of next year. Focus now is on getting out of Model 3 production hell. More versions = deeper in hell.— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 30, 2017
Prior to the launch of the Model 3, Musk was asked on Twitter about the possibility of a Ludicrous Model 3, to which he simply replied "of course". Now we have a rough timeline of when to expect it.
The Long Range version of the Model 3 allows a 0-100 time of 5.1s, indicating there's plenty of room for improvement with a Ludicrous mode. However, expect to pay for it. Ticking all the current boxes means a bill of nearly US$60,000 and that's without the dual-motor powertrain.
Given how brutally quick the top-dog Model S is, we expect the Model 3 Ludicrous Edition to be a proper menace given that it weighs roughly 600kg less. We'll have to wait and see though...
