Stella Stocks, the AA’s general manager, will be retiring at the end of this year.

Stocks helped introduce WoF and CoF testing stations, the AA Auto Centre Network and the ANCAP safety rating programme.

“Stella has had a truly groundbreaking career in the motoring industry after becoming the first fully qualified female automotive engineer with the highest qualifications possible in the UK,” said AA CEO Brian Gibbons.

“She has an extensive list of her achievements here at the AA in terms of the vital services that she has been instrumental in developing and overseeing and we would like to acknowledge and thank her for the rich legacy she leaves behind.”

Stocks said that she “enjoyed the two decades with the AA and I look forward to seeing the continued growth and development of the work already completed in Motoring Services.

“I have also relished my role as a Council Member and Director for ANCAP. Vehicle safety began as simply part of the job, but became a passion when I realised what a significant impact it could have on those involved in an accident,” she added.
