Skoda confirms local Karoq pricing and spec
Skoda has confirmed the New Zealand pricing and specification of the soon-to-be-released Karoq mid-sized SUV.
The second instalment of Skoda’s SUV strike plan involving a new model each year for four years is set to arrive this April. Launching with the mid-spec Ambition+ at $38,990 plus ORCs, it is clear Skoda is playing the SUV game to win.
The Karoq uses the VW Group’s new 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine, with active cylinder deactivation technology. When cruising on a light throttle, the four-pot disables half its cylinders to calm its fuel consumption. As a result, the fuel use claim is 5.6L/100km on the combined cycle. Skoda NZ reckons this can net buyers a potential fuel saving of up to $3000 over 60,000km. We guess they mean when compared to some similar sized SUVs. But then it all depends on how and where you drive.
While the engine is at the pointy end of efficiency, it still generates 110kW and 250Nm of torque.
4x4 technology is still on offer, although buyers will have to pony up for the Style TDI variant which will cost $48,490 ($42,990 without the four-wheel-drive system and the 1.5 TSI engine).
Karoq gets a healthy range of safety equipment as standard, including lane assist, emergency braking, blind spot detection, rear traffic alert, and front and rear parking sensors with rear view camera. Karoq Style adds adaptive cruise, drive modes and an electronic tailgate, among others.
